Leukemia

Leucemia

Leukemia is a type of cancer affecting blood and bone marrow, characterized by the uncontrolled production of abnormal white blood cells, disrupting the body's ability to produce healthy cells. It may develop suddenly (acute leukaemia) or progress slowly (chronic leukaemia).

The main types include acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL), chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML), and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), each requiring tailored treatments. Symptoms include extreme fatigue, persistent fever, paleness, unexplained weight loss, swollen lymph nodes, bleeding, frequent infections, and bone or joint pain. Chronic types may have subtler, slower-developing symptoms.

Diagnosis involves blood tests, bone marrow biopsy, and genetic testing. Treatment depends on type and stage, typically including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, or targeted therapies like tyrosine kinase inhibitors. In severe cases, bone marrow transplantation may be necessary.

Post-treatment monitoring is critical to manage relapses. Advances in medical therapies have significantly improved survival and remission rates.

At the HPA Health Group, we provide multidisciplinary, personalized care for leukaemia patients, utilizing advanced technology and expertise to ensure effective diagnosis, treatment, and continuous support.
